The new PMBOK is scheduled to be released in the 3rd quarter 2017. One of the changes talked about is simplifying the Inputs,Tools and Techniques, and Outputs (ITTOs). The ITTOs have been covered in the last several editions of the PMBOK in very granular detail. There are over 600 ITTO items in the the current 47 project steps. The changes to the 6th edition PMBOK will group the ITTOs into two main areas; one will be project planning components and the other will be project documents. At this point I am not sure what that means. What does simplify even mean? Will key tools and techniques still be covered? Will key inputs and outputs still show up as exam questions on the new version of the exam? There are probably other questions as well. If anyone can shed some light on this subject I’d love to hear from you. In the meantime, we just have to wait until the new version finally appears.
